Reporting a Student Absence

To report a student absence, please call the Main Office at 201-251-3140 by 9:00AM and leave a message on the absence line (option1).

These guidelines will be followed to maintain a healthy environment for all children and staff of the Glen RED and RED RISe Programs.

A child will be sent home, or not admitted, for the following:

  1. A temperature of 100.5 degrees or higher

  2. Gastrointestinal symptoms

  3. Upper respiratory symptoms

  4. Skin rash or infection

  5. Inflamed or infected eyes

  6. Discretion of nurse or teacher

A child may return to school after he or she has been "symptom-free" for 24 hours after the day the child was sent home ill.  (e.g., sent home Monday - return on Wednesday). This involves fever (without the use of antipyretics such as Tylenol or aspirin), cold, loose stools (without the use of antidiarrheal agents), vomiting, conjunctivitis ("pink-eye"), rash, etc.

If a child has been sent home with a rash or possible conjunctivitis and a physician has determined they are not contagious, you must present a note from the doctor to return the next day.

A doctor's note is REQUIRED upon return following any of the following conditions:

  • German Measles

  • Meningococcus

  • Whooping Cough

  • Hemophilus influenza

  • Mumps

  • Giardia Lamblia

  • Measles

  • Tuberculosis

  • Hepatitis A

  • Salmonella

  • Shigella

Children returning to school after any communicable disease listed below MUST have a note from their doctor:

  • Chicken Pox

  • Strep Throat

  • Impetigo

  • Lice

  • Scabies

Prescription medications must be in the original container from the pharmacy, clearly labeled with the child's name, date of the prescription, doctor's name, name of the drug and dosage instructions.
