RHS Attendance Policies & Procedures

  • All absences that are not part of a school-sponsored field trip or sports event need to be proactively called out by the parent to the attendance voicemail (201-670-2800 x20799) or email (rhsattend@rpsnj.us).

  • Medical appointments require advanced notice and always require a note from the medical provider following the visit--this includes doctors, dentists, orthodontists, bloodwork, X-rays, MRI, ER visits, etc. Your student will have an unexcused absence until the Attendance Office receives the note.

  • If a student needs to leave early during a class period, parents must notify the attendance office promptly so that the student can visit the attendance office and obtain an early dismissal pass to give to the teacher at the beginning of the class period.

  • Once students arrive at school, it is expected that they will remain in school for their assigned classes. Absences will be marked unexcused (and students will receive a zero for any assignment or assessment) when a student leaves and comes back missing only periods in the middle of the day, unless we receive a medical note or documentation of a scheduled appointment. If students need to leave for illness reasons, they must visit and be dismissed by the nurse.

  • If you call out a student who you expect to arrive later on and do not specify the specific period or timeline for the student’s return (e.g., student will be in late, in a little bit, hopefully this afternoon, when they feel better, etc.), then your child must stop by the attendance office when he/she arrives to school to check-in to update the attendance status to present.

  • Juniors and seniors are allowed three official full-day college visits that will not count towards their attendance totals, provided that they submit official confirmation from the school of the visit to the attendance office.
